My Creative Space - Miss Numbers

My daughter counts everything, all day (there has to be 4 pieces of green pear, but only 3 pieces of apple...) so I thought she would like some big soft numbers to play with.

I printed out some big numbers from Word (they are about as tall as my hand) and we pasted them on to cardboard to make stencils.

Each number is one piece of coloured fabric and one piece of grey for backing (they are all backed with grey so she can see when they are upside-down), right sides sewn together with a layer of padding (super-soft thanks to Aimee's lily pad offcuts!) and then turned.

The colours are going to be as rainbow-y as I can manage from my stash - I can't wait to get to blue and purple...

I don't know if Miss Numbers really understands 'adding' yet, but she recognises '+' and '=' so I did some quick appliques on white squares which came out so cute I think they would make cool big pillows too!

The dots are a last-minute embroidered addition, you can see it is still a work in progress.

I will finish the numbers (to 10) before I show them to her, but in the meantime she is deliriously happy playing with the stencils... and when she is finished they get bundled up into a toy's backpack for what she earnestly informs me is "a bag of counting".
