April 14th.

21 years ago now. My first date with Halis was April 14th, 1989. We went on a double-date to an arcade. I went on a dare. I couldn't stand Halis. But that night, he kissed me goodnight ... and I felt something ... I felt connected. And here we are ... all these years later ... and I still feel that inexplicable connection. And my heart still skips a few beats sometimes when I look at him.
Incidently, April 14th is also the date that Halis left for Haiti ... 4 years ago now ... to retrieve our son and to bring him home for good. In a way ... April 14th is the day that our family was created ... both in 1989 and in 2006. I love that day :)
Thank you for that goodnight kiss in the backseat of your VW rabbit, Halis. It was the beginning of the rest of my life. I love you.
Love,
Jodi

Poor Truck.

Just another example for Isaac (and for us) of how important the fire department is to our communities. They helped save the building ... and they cleaned up the gas and oil spoils so the local stream would not be contaminated.
Thank you Hampden Police and Firefighters.

New Toy.

So simple. Yet the results are just so awesome (for my taste anyway):

The ideas for these pics have been floating around in my head for quite some time, and now they are a reality. Feels good. I have some more "irons in the fire", but these were my starting point. They are all now available in my shop - as 5x7s - for just $10 each. (Pssst... please tell your friends!). I can mat them and frame them as well - all details are in my shop listings.
So, Halis wants kuddos for always being the hero that creates whatever it is I want at the moment. You should have seen him hustle to install fencing around our old one acre farm a few years back. He accomplished one acre of fencing in a weekend - and it came out perfect. All because a fox got one of my chickens and I cried. Daddy came to the rescue and the chickens were safe from then on. Anyway, thanks Halis - you are the best. Truly.
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Love,
Jodi

Daddy's New Toy.
Mama got Daddy a Nikon D60 for Christmas ... partly because he expressed interest in learning photography ... and partly because I want a photography buddy. Either way, he is totally enjoying it. I also gave him David Busch's D60 Guide ... and he has been reading it veraciously. I have a feeling that my photography buddy is soon going to surpass my amateur level of expertise ... and we may end up getting a little competitive (as usual --- have I ever told you that we compete each year at Christmas to see who can generate the most Christmas cards to be sent to our home? I won this year). Well, Halis has already set up a Flickr account: A Dad In Love. And his first pic is of our son and my Dad --- eating pancakes on Christmas morning. I love it. And I look forward to the beautiful pics he will take in the future.

Enjoy the camera Daddy --- soon we will be having a friendly competition over whose photos can generate the most flickr comments :)
Love,
Jodi

Daddy's New Toy.
What a beauty ... or at least she will be soon. She runs, drives, and was inspected in 2007. A sweet ride for just $200!And in case you have forgotten just how cool this car is ... check this out :
This should be fun! I can't wait to ride shotgun in my husband's new KITT car. I never thought I would actually think this car was "cool" again ... but the 80's are back ... and everything old is "cool" again :) I might also mention that Halis and I are each going through a premature mid-life crisis ... and are looking to relive some of our youth (cough...cough...).
Hope you feel young & a bit "racey" today ... oh, and speaking of feeling "racey" ... check this out too:

A Few Things...
I went ahead and ordered limited copies of my piece "...and he gazed in wild wonder." (see below) They will soon be available on Etsy as 8" x 10" prints - signed, numbered and ready for framing.
Also exciting is my husband's wish for me to go ahead and buy myself the camera of my dreams. He said... and I quote... "Babe, because I love you so much, go ahead and buy the new camera you want. It will be so much fun for you." To which I said, "Naaa... I want to save our money." (see the difference between us?) But now I'm thinking about it. It WOULD be so MUCH fun!
I am looking at all the Nikon DSLRs ... and am getting fond of the D70 & D200. Any advice? The D200 sure is a beauty:
And lastly, we actually went out AGAIN. the whole family. To eat. In the city. Again. I love it! We laughed, we smiled, we ate, we talked, and we were courted by the Ground Round balloon man :) It was kids night at the Ground Round, and though I prefer privately owned, "Mom & Pop" restaurants, this was just right for a Thursday night.

Halis thinks that Isaac will hate us later on for all the dorky pics we take of him. I like to think that he will be so impressed at how much of his life I have documented in photos. Dorky or not.
Enjoy the day.
Love,
Jodi
P.S. The "30 Days of the Everyday" project is complete. I love the resulting mosaic. And though I want to begin a dozen more photo projects ... I think I will start with "30 Days of Yesteryear." ... favorite photos from the past 5 years of our lives. I will begin Monday. Anyone want to join?
